How does the Car Scrappage Scheme work?

For a consumer to be a part of the scrappage scheme, both their car and the dealership the wish to purchase from must qualify and meet the criteria of the scheme.

When a new car has been selected from a scheme registered dealership, and a sale has been agreed, the dealer will arrange for the old vehicle to be collected and scrapped. Once this has been completed the 2000 discount will be taken off the price of the new car. This benefits both the consumers and the motor industry.

The scrappage scheme has been based on a model currently in progress in Germany which has reportedly seen a 40 percent increase in new car sales.
